A touch of classical music is sweeping across the Altenburg market square this weekend, as the **Classic Open Air** will take place on June 20th and 21st, 2025. The motto “**A Midsummer Night’s Dream**” promises not only musical highlights, but also a magical atmosphere, fitting for the summer solstice. On both evenings the concerts start at 9:00 p.m. and admission opens at 7:00 p.m.

The star of the evening is the internationally acclaimed violinist **Michael Barenboim**, who will perform the **Violin Concerto in E minor op. 64** by **Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy**. He is accompanied by the **Altenburg-Gera Philharmonic Orchestra**, under the direction of **GMD Ruben Gazarian**. Mendelssohn's works are well known not only in Germany, but also in Europe and the USA, especially the well-known **Wedding March** from the incidental music “**A Midsummer Night's Dream op. 61 MWV M 13**”. This composition was created at the request of **King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia** and is one of the timeless classics that is played in many celebrations and ceremonies.

During the concert break, visitors can look forward to a **pantomimic Shakespeare intermezzo** from the **MitgamerAkademie Altenburg**. The diversity and magic of Shakespeare's work is presented in an unconventional and entertaining way - a great addition to the musical experience.
