New animal attraction in Gera: Azara-Agutis and Gold Head Löwenäffchen!
Gera, Deutschland - The zoo friends in Gera can look forward to! The Thuringian zoo has brought a fresh air into its wildlife with two Azara agutis and two gold head lions. These new residents have already moved into the former sea cat, which has been extensively renovated and rebuilt in the past few months. A big applause is due to the Förderverein Tierpark Gera e.V. , which has been actively working on the circulation of the system since its foundation.
The deputy animal park manager Steffen Horn emphasized the importance of voluntary help, without which this project would not have been possible. The prerequisite for a successful renovation was the merging of two enclosures as well as the installation of large glass panes and roofing. The new animal species are now well protected from weather conditions.
renovation and conversion of the system
In the past few months, not only the enclosures have been merged, but also the interiors have been thoroughly redesigned. The ceiling was raised indoors, an artificial rock with a new watercourse was integrated and the outer enclosure was redesigned. This commitment is reflected in the high quality of life, which is now given for both animals and visitors.
The Azara-Agutis who have been living in Gera since May come from various zoos in Germany; The male comes from the Ströhen zoo and the female from the "Zoo der Minis" in Aue. The gold head lions, who came to Gera from the Zoological Station Wassenberg just a few days ago, were also acquired by the association and are now proud of their new home.
meaning of nature conservation
What makes these newcomers so special? They are part of important nature conservation projects! As Modern Zoos show a crucial role in breeding and care of endangered animal species. By participating in the European conservation breeding programs (EEPS), the genetic diversity of these species is secured in the long term. In Europe there are now EEP programs for over 400 animal species.
With its new residents, gera could not only present itself as a venue, but also as an important element in nature conservation. It remains exciting to follow how these animals will develop in their new environment. Tierpark fans therefore have every reason to stop by regularly and immerse yourself in the zoo life!
