New supervisory board head Kurt Dannenberg: Theater Altenburg Gera in front of change!

An exciting turn in the theater landscape of the region: from July 1, 2025, Kurt Dannenberg, the reigning mayor of Gera, will take over the chair on the supervisory board of Theater Altenburg Gera gGmbH. This was decided at the meeting of the Supervisory Board on June 12, 2025. Dannenberg succeeds André Neumann, who has worked at the head of the Supervisory Board in the past two years. Neumann, also mayor, did valuable work and received thanks and recognition from his colleagues for his commitment. The management and the Supervisory Board wish Dannenberg every good success and a trusting cooperation with the team.

In a large open-air event on the Altenburger Marktplatz, which took place on June 24, 2023, 1270 visitors were able to convince themselves of the creative diversity of the theater. Both André Neumann and General Director Kay Kuntze were present and recorded the friendly faces of the visitors. It was not only a feast for the theater fans, but also a sign of the city's attachment to its cultural treasure.

A look at the past developments

As part of the meeting of the Supervisory Board on June 30, 2023, André Neumann himself was elected chairman after he replaced Uwe Melzer, the district administrator of the Altenburger Land district. This decision was part of another realignment that the theater has undergone in recent years. The supervisory board, the management and the workforce thanked Melzer for his work and wished Neumann a successful office.

With the takeover of Kurt Dannenberg chair, a new era is now at the door.
