Volunteer funding: Apply now by July 31st for up to 97,000 euros!

In a great step to promote volunteer work in Thuringia, the Gotha district has around 97,000 euros available to support the commitment of citizens. How Oscar on Friday reported, this is an increase of a whopping 44,000 euros compared to the previous year. Such funds help to strengthen the diversity of volunteer work and promote valuable initiatives that enrich our community life.

The funding provided will be used, among other things, for the organization of regional volunteer galas, the volunteer card and various honors from District Administrator Onno Eckert. This funding goes primarily to clubs and umbrella organizations in the district that strengthen and enrich the local social fabric. Committed citizens also have the opportunity to be nominated for the volunteer card, which offers many advantages in participating facilities such as swimming pools, libraries, museums and zoos.

Diverse funding opportunities until the end of July

Applications for volunteer funding can be submitted until July 31st. These can cover a variety of purposes including:

  • Finanzierung von Aus-, Fort- und Weiterbildungen im Ehrenamt
  • Entwicklung und Betreuung von Vernetzungs- oder Modellprojekten
  • Honorierung ehrenamtlich tätiger Personen
  • Organisation von Veranstaltungen, wie etwa lokale Ehrenamtsgalas
  • Öffentlichkeitsarbeit und Maßnahmen zur Gewinnung neuer Ehrenamtlicher

A working group consisting of the district administrator, the second deputy Adrian Weber, administrative employees and representatives of umbrella organizations decides on the allocation of funds. A sign of how important volunteer work is in our society!

New Thuringian Voluntary Work Act as a basis

The current funding offensive will be strongly influenced by what was passed in July 2024 Thuringian Voluntary Work Act supports. This law, which came into force on January 1, 2025, aims to structurally strengthen voluntary work in Thuringia. A central element is the state program “Strengthening civic engagement and volunteerism”, which provides at least 15 million euros annually.

The Thuringian Voluntary Foundation, which plays a key role in the implementation of this program, also provides institutional funding of at least 3.5 million euros per year. The foundation works closely with relevant authorities to develop the best funding opportunities. The information on the applications is accessible digitally via the foundation's platform, which enables modern and time-saving applications. This goes hand in hand with the desire to increase the digital presence in volunteer work.

A record volume of 2.5 million euros is also available for 2023 to support civic engagement, particularly in rural areas. Not only local associations are supported, but also initiatives from various areas of the community. The commitment is worth it in many ways!

For anyone interested in strengthening volunteer work in their community, now is the right time to take action.
