Cultural trip through Germany: enchant theatre, art and wine!

A group of former and former mayors recently traveled to the charming cities of Bad Hersfeld, Kassel and Gotha. This cultural excursion was not only an opportunity to gain new impressions, but also an exciting exchange about history and traditions.

The first stop was in Bad Hersfeld, known for its impressive monastery ruins and annual festival. The play “Midsummer Night’s Dreams” by William Shakespeare was on the program. The modern production and the magical stage design captivated the visitors and offered a wonderful start to the journey.

From Bad Hersfeld to Kassel

The next stage took the group to the famous Wilhelmshöhe mountain park in Kassel, a truly unique UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you could see the impressive Hercules statue and fascinating water features that were built by Landgrave Carl in 1689. These monumental water structures, including the Grand Fountain - once the tallest geyser in the world - powerfully illustrate man's mastery over nature.

The other water features in particular, such as the Octagon, the Vexing Grotto and the Baroque Cascade, left a lasting impression. The entire facility was designed in harmony with the surroundings and was also managed by a steering committee that takes care of protection and preservation.

A look at Gotha

After the inspiring experiences in Kassel, we continued to Gotha, where the group was received by Mayor Knut Kreuch in the town hall. A liberal and warm welcome awaited them, accompanied by information about the city's developments and the important role of Ernst the Pious, the Duke of Saxe-Gotha, as a reformer and “ancestor of European monarchies”.

Gotha also impressed with the baroque Friedenstein Castle, one of the oldest castle buildings in Germany. The castle houses the oldest surviving theater as well as important collections that introduced visitors to the region's rich history.

Commonality through history and culture

As deservedly noted, the trip brought together everything participants valued: history, theater, art and a sense of community. The trip culminated in a cozy hedge restaurant, where hearty food and good wine awaited those present. This offered the perfect opportunity to reflect on the experience in a friendly atmosphere.

Germany has a large number of UNESCO World Heritage sites that reflect the country's cultural heritage. With a total of 54 sites, including historic cities, churches and castles, cultural diversity, such as the impressive water facilities in Kassel, is an essential part of German identity.

The trip was not only a feast for the eyes, but also a great opportunity to get to know the rich culture and history of the German countries. Who would have thought that ancient traditions and modern interpretations could come together so harmoniously?
