Clean water for Adua: New well project helps thousands!

An important project to improve living conditions is currently being implemented in Adua, the sister city of GothAdua in Ethiopia. The Friends of GothAdua e.V. has initiated the construction of a well that will provide clean drinking water for several thousand people. According to gotha-aktuell.info, the situation in Adua is catastrophic, caused by a civil war and the associated destruction of the infrastructure. With a contribution of 11,000 euros to a total budget of around 40,000 euros, the circle of friends makes a valuable contribution to combating this inequality.

The commitment is supported by the Austrian organization “Jugend ein Welt”, which is already active on site. The town twinning association also plans to expand its cooperation with this organization in the long term in order to implement even more projects to improve the living situation in Adua. Further steps and initiatives will be discussed at the next general meeting.

Clean water as a basis for life

Access to clean drinking water remains an unfulfilled dream for many people around the world. It is estimated that over 2 billion people do not have access to this vital raw material. The initiative to build the well in Adua is an important step to improve water supplies and prevent health problems. As [mhm-hilfe.de].

The concept behind these well projects is that they are implemented as community projects. Once completed, the wells are overseen by a water committee, which typically consists of seven members – both women and men. These committees are trained to ensure the care and maintenance of the wells. The training aims to guarantee the longevity of the wells and to hold the community accountable, as explained on menschenfuermenschen.at.

Water committee members also hire a person to be responsible for maintaining the well. This person not only takes care of the cleanliness of the water place, but also ensures that opening hours are adhered to. This maintenance worker is paid through fees that are determined by the users themselves. In this way, communities create a sustainable system that also finances future repairs.

The initiative in Adua impressively shows how important access to water is and how local projects can be supported through international partnerships. The Friends of GothAdua e.V. and the organization “Youth a World” are making a significant contribution to improving the quality of life in Adua and are setting an example for solidarity in a world in which clean water remains a valuable commodity.
