Gotha Zoo celebrates the grand reopening of the warm house!
Gotha Zoo is back! After being closed for around a year, the newly renovated warm house opened its doors on August 12, 2025 and attracts visitors with a fresh rainforest panorama. The highlight of the opening are the rare black marmosets, which now live in the enclosure with a paka. These animal residents contribute to the lively atmosphere of the park, as the Paka will soon have a partner to promote socialization between the animals and enable use of all levels of the enclosure. Visitors can observe the inner workings and behavior of the animals in different areas, which makes the stay particularly exciting. What is particularly notable is that both the black marmoset and the paca come from the tropical rainforests of South America and are not often seen in zoological institutions gotha-aktuell.info reported.
The zoo's warm house was lovingly designed by animal keeper Titus Hergt, supported by Ms. Schwarzkopf from Fressnapf Gotha. Visitors can also look forward to the night area, which is open again. Here you can admire Egyptian fruit bats and tasseled thorns. And there is also news for all chinchilla fans: these fluffy animals will be moving into another night area next weekend. Gotha Zoo invites everyone to experience this new rainforest panorama and be inspired by the diverse animal species.
A diverse range of leisure activities
With a stroller-friendly, 1.7 km long path and a spacious six hectares, Gotha Zoo is the ideal place for a family trip. Here visitors can not only discover wild animals, but also native bird species and a lovingly designed petting zoo. Show feeding events offer exciting insights into the animals' habitat and provide valuable information about nature conservation. In addition, QR codes on the enclosure signage allow access to video clips about the different animal species, which is particularly a hit with young animal lovers tierpark-gotha.de explained.
For little adventurers there are also two large adventure playgrounds that provide lots of fun and exercise. If you want to enjoy a particularly beautiful view, you can visit the “Wolfhügel” and “Little Lynx Tower” points, which offer an excellent view of the enclosures. The annual events include the zoo festival on the first Sunday in September and the traditional Halloween festival on October 31st - it's guaranteed to never be boring here!
A place for everyone
The Tierpark Gotha e.V. association plays an important role in the zoo by helping to keep the park alive through financial resources and voluntary support. If you want to get even more involved, you can sponsor animals or food, which also look good as original gifts. The Gotha Zoo is also a member of the German Animal Park Society (DTG) and thus shows its commitment to animal protection and the preservation of endangered species.
The newly renovated Gotha Zoo not only offers an exciting animal experience, but also a wide range of leisure activities for the whole family. Definitely worth a visit!
