Reconstruction of the B247 intersection Dr.-Troch-Straße: traffic opening soon!

Traffic will soon be smoother again in Gotha! The renovation work on the B247 Dr.-Troch-Straße intersection is coming to an end. From September 10, 2025, drivers will be able to use the redesigned intersection again. With an investment volume of around 800,000 euros, the traffic system will be modernized and optimized in order to improve safety and traffic flow. Gotha.de reports that the construction work was carried out as part of a partial reconstruction and expansion of the four-arm intersection.

A new right-turn lane in the western arm of the B247 in the southbound direction and a 150-meter-long merging lane for free-flowing traffic to the motorway are important innovations. In addition, a traffic island and a rearrangement of the shared pedestrian and cycle path will be implemented on the south side of the intersection. The improvement was urgently needed as turning and intersection accidents had repeatedly occurred in the past.

Full closure and diversions

However, residents and road users were faced with restrictions during the construction work: The complete lockdown the Dr.-Troch-Straße (L 1027) and the B247 had to be arranged from August 12th to probably September 12th, 2025. This measure affected the section from the height of an amusement arcade to the junction with the B247 and the B247 in the direction of the A4 from the junction to Dr.-Troch-Straße. A large diversion is signposted and takes traffic south of the AS Gotha Boxberg onto the L 1026 towards Schwabhausen and then to the B247.

The organizers ask all road users to be considerate and patient during this renovation phase. It is not just a nice weather project, but an important building block for the future local transport infrastructure.

The importance of traffic statistics

The renovations to the streets are not just local issues. According to the standard work “Traffic in Numbers” from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, we gain additional insights into Germany’s mobility and the importance of regular investments in infrastructure. The compendium offers current figures and time series that are not only used to analyze the traffic situation, but also to plan and implement projects similar to those in Gotha. BMV emphasizes that such data is essential to understand and continually improve daily mobility behavior.

With the imminent completion of the work on the Dr.-Troch-Straße intersection, a significant step towards safer and more efficient traffic management in Gotha will now be taken. Citizens can look forward to seeing how the changes will affect their daily routine.
