Fête de la Musique: Thuringia celebrates with music in the streets!
In Thuringia, people take advantage of the beautiful weather and come in large numbers to street festivals that offer a colorful mix of food, drinks and, above all, live music. This Saturday, June 21st, one of the highlights of the German music scene is coming up: the Music Festival. There are celebrations in many cities, and next Saturday visitors can look forward to a great program.
Preparations are already in full swing, especially in Erfurt, where many musical talents already filled the streets at the recent Krämerbrückenfest. But the spectacle is far from over! In Eisenberg, the organizers have announced eleven acts at six locations, which start at 6 p.m. at Rossplatz and keep the atmosphere going until midnight. Music genres such as folk, rock and hits promise that there is something for everyone.
Cultural diversity in cities
Weimar won't be left out either and expects 350 artists from over 60 bands at 14 locations in the city center. From folklore to jazz to tango and Afrobeat, everything is represented. The street festival between Jakobskirche, Geleitstrasse and the castle, which runs from 5:30 p.m. to midnight, will be particularly interesting. Here visitors can also present the song “Never again is now”.
There will be a free, child-friendly music event in Altenburg for the third time from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. When the weather is nice, the concerts take place in the backyard of the casino. If the weather conditions are bad, the events move to the former restaurant. Numerous musicians are also on the move in Gera, Pößneck and Bad Blankenburg and offer live music at more than ten locations, with a total of over 60 artists expected in Pößneck.
Sense of community and political debates
A special highlight in Greiz will be a large dark blue stage that will be set up for the Fête de la Musique. Here an artist appears as the opening act for another performance. The political context is not neglected: While the event stands for openness and community, the AfD wants to use the stage in the castle garden for political discussions, which is likely to cause mixed reactions from some visitors.
Another interesting aspect is the connection between the Fête de la Musique in Jena and the Christopher Street Day demonstration. Musicians offer their free live concerts in public places, and not just in Jena. Music will be played in a total of 30 cities in Thuringia on this day of action, which illustrates the extraordinary breadth and diversity of the festival.
The Music Festival is a worldwide celebration celebrated by more than 1000 cities. It was launched in France in 1982 and has since developed into a symbol of cultural exchange and togetherness. With so many options, nothing stands in the way of musical enjoyment while celebrating!
With great weather in prospect, visitors can expect an unforgettable night full of music and conviviality on Saturday. So the motto is: put on the music and bring a good mood!
