Crock celebrates 160 years of fire service: Exciting competitions during the firefighting attack!

On August 24, 2025, numerous fire brigade teams gathered in Crock, where the district elimination and the Auengrund Cup were celebrated in the “Wet” firefighting attack as part of the 160th anniversary of the local fire department. Six youth teams, nine men's teams, one women's team and two children's teams showed off their skills and competed for the best placements. The event was organized by the Fire Brigade Friends Crock e.V. and the Hildburghausen District Fire Brigade Association and represents a highlight in regional fire service sport. “The Crocker Fire Department’s last big festival took place ten years ago,” the organizers reported proudly.

The wet firefighting attack is not only a popular discipline in firefighting sports, it is also an exciting competition. Teams try to carry out a simulated fire-fighting attack in as short a time as possible. A team consists of seven athletes who compete in full operational clothing. The competition track is 95 meters long and 20 meters wide, with special aiming devices to promote precise work. As the Wikipedia explained, the teams will be ranked in two runs, with the better time counting. “Teamwork is required here, because the teams are free to distribute tasks,” explains an experienced firefighter.

Competition and game rules

The rules are clear: a wooden podium and a water extraction point are central elements, and the course of the competitions has also been precisely defined. The timing begins as soon as both target devices are filled with ten liters of water each. “They pay close attention to every second!” commented one viewer. Even the distances between the hoses have to be maintained - from the start to the target devices it is a long path that the teams have to master with a lot of skill.

Interestingly, the Nass firefighting attack is also carried out internationally. The Website feusport.de promotes communication in the firefighting sports scene and provides an overview of competitions, dates and results. The World Fire Fighting Championships were launched in 1973 and are now also held for volunteer fire departments and women.

A look into the future

As firefighting sports continue to grow, there is a great deal of interest and CUP events and regional competitions are increasing. Many teams and their supporters are already looking forward to the next challenges, while the Fire Brigade Friends Crock e.V. was able to offer all participants and visitors a great event.
