Pure inclusion: Sports festival in Bedheim delights young and old!
In bright summer weather, numerous participants gathered at the 12th integrative sports festival of TSV Blau-Weiß Bedheim on June 20, 2025. Organized by Marion Seeber, the motto of the event was “Being there is everything”. A platform was created around the Albert Schweizer special school and the Kneipp elementary school in Bedheim that was entirely dedicated to inclusion and togetherness. In addition to the schools, kindergartens from Bedheim and Gleichamberg also took part. New this year was the grandma-grandpa-grandchildren sports group from Römhild, which was led by Ingrid Theil.
The sports festival was ceremoniously opened by District Administrator Sven Gregor, who emphasized the importance of this event for the community. Particular attention was paid to promoting inclusion, which was supported by appropriate offers from the district sports association. The inclusive stations and activities offered everyone, regardless of ability, the opportunity to exercise and have fun.
Program points and experiences
The children particularly had a lot of fun at the various stations that the state sports association presented with its integration mobile. A highlight was the opportunity for the young participants to take the sports badge, which increased the excitement and commitment even further. The event was musically accompanied by a children's and youth orchestra from Gleichamberg, which lightened the mood with great performances.
The idea behind this sports festival is to bring people together and give them the opportunity to experience equality and community. This is not only evident in Bedheim, where integration can be experienced, but also in other cities. The sports department of the city of Frankfurt am Main is planning an inclusive games and sports festival on November 2, 2025 in the Kalbach sports and leisure center, which is organized by TSV 1875 Bonames e.V.
Strengthen inclusion in sport
With a colorful program of climbing stations, trampolines, bouncy castles, ball games and wheelchair obstacle courses, Frankfurt also focuses on promoting inclusion for people with and without disabilities. Everything is offered here to break down barriers and raise awareness of diversity in sport. The event aims to reduce discrimination and promote acceptance, which is certainly successful given the approximately 1200 square meter activity area.
Inclusion is an important topic that has been discussed in German sport for many years. Efforts to enable people with disabilities to participate equally are ongoing, but much remains to be done. Since 2006, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has required that people with disabilities have access to sport and leisure activities. Some progress has been made in recent decades, but challenges remain significant, particularly in the area of competitive sports.
Real-life examples, such as that of Natalie du Toit, a South African swimmer, show how sport can positively change the lives of people with disabilities. She successfully took part in international competitions and has written an inspiring story in the world of sports. Such experiences are also motivating in this country and show how important it is to advocate for inclusion and be strong together.
The integrative sports festival in Bedheim is not just an event, but a sign of the importance of inclusion in sport. The tireless efforts of organizations and sports clubs create the framework conditions so that everyone has the chance to participate actively and successfully.
