Veßra Monastery: Magical night full of sounds and stories awaits!
A very special event is on the agenda this weekend at the Hennebergisches Museum in Veßra Monastery. Under the motto “What does a monastery sound like?” the historic complex becomes a place of sounds, silence and light. The museum, which sits on the site of the former Premonstratensian canons' monastery from 1131, invites visitors to explore the monastery and its history in a completely new way. Reported in southern Thuringia that in addition to flashlight tours, the event also offers mystical stories, such as the one about the forester murder in Schwarza.
But the Henneberg Museum has even more to offer. As part of the Thuringian Castles and Gardens Foundation, the museum not only deals with the history of the monastery, but also with folklore and the unique identity of the region between the Thuringian Forest, Rhön and Grabfeld. It has a spacious area of six hectares, surrounded by an old monastery wall with impressive Romanesque and Gothic buildings, including the Basilica of St. Mary, consecrated in 1138.
Creativity and exploration
Visitors can also become active themselves during the night in the museum. Making lanterns is on the agenda to bring light into the August night. For children there is the “play barn” with a slide and sandpit as well as a tractor course. The museum's own offerings ensure that both the little ones and the adults get their money's worth. Thüringen.info highlights that the various topics such as alchemy and astronomy will be covered during the event.
Another highlight is the film screening of “Night at the Museum” late in the evening, which wonderfully complements the theme of the evening. This film will stimulate visitors' imagination and stimulate curiosity about life in the monastery.
A look behind the scenes
The Hennebergisches Museum Kloster Veßra is more than just a meeting place; it is a living open-air museum that conveys experience and knowledge in an exciting way. Founded in 1975 as the “Agricultural History Museum of the Suhl District”, it shows the development of rural culture and agriculture from the past to the present. Veßra Monastery Museum describes how the collection and presentation of traditional crafts promotes understanding of the region.
