A lot is happening in Eishausen right now: The Theresiengesellschaft has planned to erect a statue of Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. It will be installed in her hometown of Hildburghausen, as part of the society's ambitious projects, which were launched in September 2022. Because a very special anniversary is coming up in 2025: the 200th anniversary of the coronation of Ludwig I and Therese, which is to be celebrated on October 13th. In southern Thuringia reports that the Theresiengesellschaft is not only planning the statue, but also wants to implement a variety of events and projects in Hildburghausen's city center.
Princess Therese, who married King Ludwig I of Bavaria on October 12, 1810, is a central figure in the story. Since the celebrations for her wedding, which took place over five days in Munich, she has won a place in people's hearts. These events showed how close the Wittelsbach dynasty was to the people and were a great thank you to their subjects. A horse race in a meadow just outside Munich ended the festivities and ultimately laid the foundation for what we know today as Oktoberfest. The celebrated meadow was called “Theresen's Meadow” in honor of the bride, just as the folk festival itself was born, and in short “the Wiesn”. The Oktoberfest thus becomes a piece of Bavarian identity that goes back to this special connection.
