Schleusingen celebrates 30 years of the city band with a big anniversary concert!
On June 30, 2025, a very special celebration will take place in picturesque Schleusingen: the town band will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a concert under blooming linden trees. The atmosphere will be festive and happy, as a loyal fan base will gather in the Gerhart Hauptmann School playground to celebrate this musical milestone together. This evening, Detlef Klett, the chairman of the music association, will take a look back at the original city band founded in 1931 and shed light on the band's development over the last three decades. The city band's big band will help get you in the mood for the concert and give guests a foretaste of the musical program.
But it is not just the Schleusinger town band that has played an important role in regional musical life in recent years. The Eichsfeld-Gymnasium Big Band also has an impressive anniversary to celebrate. Already in September 2022, the band members were beaming on the occasion of their 25th anniversary. Over 70 musicians, consisting of current and former students, under the direction of Hartwig Depenbrock, the band founder, did their best to give the listeners an unforgettable concert with hits like “Bad Guy” and “Hallelujah”. Rehearsals took place with around 50 former band members, which shows the bond and cohesion that the band has built up over the years [Eichsfeld-Gymnasium] reports.
A look at big band culture
Big bands have their own place in the music scene. The SWR Big Band will also give an impressive concert to mark its 75th anniversary. On April 1, 2026, the Liederhalle in Stuttgart will be transformed into a venue full of musical highlights. The concert promises a journey through the band's history, under the direction of the award-winning Magnus Lindgren, who not only plays tenor saxophone, but also flute and clarinet. The sound design will be enriched by the participation of string players and percussionists, and surprise guests have been announced [SWR] highlights the importance of this anniversary.
These anniversaries not only show how deeply the roots of music are anchored in the community, but also the importance of youth work in schools. Promoting talent and exchanging ideas between former and current students is an important part that will inspire future generations. In times of social distancing, returning to such happy occasions is more than a reason to celebrate. They are a sign of connection and togetherness in music. Whether in Schleusingen or at the Eichsfeld-Gymnasium, the love of music and community are the focus - and that's simply great!
With all of these events, one thing remains clear: the local music scene is vibrant and thriving like never before. An integral part of this community are the committed musicians who put their heart and soul into their art and bring generations together. Let's look forward to these musical highlights!
