Deadly motorcycle accidents in Thuringia: two drivers are badly affected!
In the past few days, a series of tragic motorcycle accidents in Thuringia has caused dismay. On Wednesday, two serious incidents occurred, which demanded both dead and injuries. The police reported that a 71-year-old motorcyclist fatally crashed in an accident between Tachbach and Marisfeld. The man, who was part of a group of four motorcyclists, got on oncoming traffic and collided with a car. Despite all the measures, he could not be saved and died at the scene of the accident. The federal road was temporarily blocked due to the incident, which led to extensive traffic disruptions, as MDR.
But that was not the only serious accident of the day. A few days ago, on Thursday evening, two motorcyclists aged 23 and 22 injured seriously with an overtaking maneuver on the country road. While the duo tried to overtake a car in advance, the 22-year-old overlooked a 46-year-old cyclist and was in danger. An oncoming motorhome fortune him to brake, which had dramatic consequences: the 22-year-old crashed into a caravan head-on and succumbed to his serious injuries. The 23-year-old was less lucky, but bumped into his machine against the cyclist, with both of them got away relatively lightly. A nine-year-old girl in the car opposite also suffered minor injuries, as reported by Thuringia24.
accident statistics and traffic safety
The sad accidents are in a worrying context when you look at the current traffic accident statistics. According to the Statistical State Office, a total of 24 people died between January and April 2023 on Thuringia's streets. April is particularly striking, in which the highest level so far was recorded this year with nine road dead. During this period there were 15,620 accidents in which 1,226 people were easily injured and 330 seriously injured. A disturbing aspect is that in 88 of these accidents, alcohol influence played a role, which corresponds to about 5.5 percent of all accidents.
These tragic incidents and the alarming statistics ask for a rethink in relation to traffic safety. Countries in particular that are known as accident -prone are a great danger, especially in the evening. Experts and statisticians agree that targeted measures in traffic education, infrastructure and vehicle technology are necessary to increase safety on the streets and to prevent such tragedies in the future.
