Volleyball fever in Hildburghausen: 8th WEGRA Cup inspires 30 teams!
The 8th WEGRA Cup was held in Hildburghausen at the weekend, an event that not only attracted volleyball fans, but also gave a real boost to local sport. Around 30 teams from Thuringia and neighboring federal states came together to show off their skills. The president of VC Hildburghausen expressed his enthusiasm about the success of the tournament and stated that “it was simply great” to see so many athletes in the city inSuedthueringen reported.
The return of GSVE Delitzsch from Saxony, which won the women's competition in the B category last year, was particularly pleasing. This year the excitement increased again - the positive feedback shows that the event was a complete success. Volleyball enthusiasts from the region were represented in large numbers and created an exciting atmosphere.
Young talents on the rise
While the adults demonstrated their talent at the WEGRA Cup, the younger ones are also looking at the challenge with wide eyes. VC Hildburghausen has registered a U13 team for the 2017/18 season. The team, consisting of players Eva Keller, Inka Krämer and Romana Schubarth, is already supported by coaches Rike and Robert Klopf. This strong base means that all players take part in match days and have the opportunity to develop further, as can be read on the VC Hila website.
The U13 not only performed well in the preliminary round, but also performed well in the A final in Erfurt. In the first match against Suhl I, the first set was won 25:24, but Suhl was able to win the following two sets. Nevertheless, HiLa had the opportunity to reach the semi-finals, which they achieved by winning the direct duel against Gotha. SWE I was waiting there and dominated the game and ultimately defeated the team from Hildburghausen. The team fought for third place against Schmalkalden, where the tiebreak was lost despite the team winning the initial set.
Education and training in volleyball
Apart from the tournaments, further training is also being carried out in volleyball. There were some important dates scheduled in this regard. A beach volleyball coach training course took place on September 4th, 2025, followed by various training courses and further training for referees on September 6th, which took place in various cities. Training to become a mini referee was also offered on September 7, 2025. Such measures are important to breathe new life into volleyball after the short pandemic break, which is also confirmed by the TVV website.
Another central point in the volleyball scene is the commitment to supporting young talent. The successful implementation of the WEGRA Cup not only shows the passion for the sport, but also the great potential that lies in the region. It will be exciting to see how the teams perform in the coming months. One thing is certain: both players and spectators have come together in a special way this year - and that is exactly what makes the sport of volleyball so lively.
