A look at the current context

In the midst of this memorial event, November 9th in Thuringia will commemorate the Nazi pogrom night of 1938, which will also receive particular attention this year. Prime Minister Mario Voigt emphasizes the long-term consequences of Jewish culture and history in Thuringia, while pointing out anti-Semitism, which has not disappeared even today. This day, which not only brings pain but also symbolizes the joy of regaining unity and freedom, should give us all pause for thought. Voigt's upcoming trip to Israel and the wreath-laying ceremony at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial will send a strong message against forgetting.

The Thuringian Left calls for a clear confrontation with the Shoah and to keep awareness of the fight against anti-Semitism. November 9th combines pain, sadness and the memory of past barbarities with the hope for a better, shared future.
