Ernst-Abbe-Platz, Jena, Deutschland - After intensive construction work, a significant improvement for local transport in Jena will return from June 30, 2025: tram lines 1 and 4 then drive again to the Ernst-ABBE-Platz final stop. This reports Jenaer Nachrichten . One reason to be happy after the track has been fundamentally renovated in recent months.

The construction work that started in July 2024 includes a lot. The old tracks were dismantled and replaced by a modern system of long -range beams and vibration -damping tracks. The course and overhead lines were also renewed, and platform borders and paving surfaces were renewed. Andreas Möller, Managing Director of Jena local transport, thanks the passengers for their understanding during construction. was planned, but had to be postponed for an indefinite period by unexpected underground defects and material delivery delays.

test drive and current restrictions

A significant test drive with a 42 -meter long light railing was already successful. From August 1st, the trams of lines 1 and 4 will run from Lobeda-West to constraints, which will end the long existing rail replacement traffic. However, there are still restrictions on Naumburger Straße, which are expected to last until September. The Stifterstraße stops are not served for the time being. Mobilitaet.jena.de confirmed that the tracks and top lines in northwestern Jena were modernized by the end of 2023 and the total costs for track construction were around 3.2 million euros.

In the meantime, the work on Ernst-Abbe-Platz is also in full swing. These are expected to continue until the end of the year. Another improvement is the new bus connections to Iserstedt, with bus line 16, which is traveling every hour, as well as the setting of the bus line 424 via Iserstedt, which is also evident.

Current construction site overview

The construction work in Jena are diverse and affect different areas. Some of the currently upcoming construction sites are:

  • Burgauer Weg / Camburger Straße: full closure until June 24, 2025 due to civil engineering work on the gas line.
  • Carl-Zeiss-Platz: full closure until August 29, 2025 due to the renovation of the German optical museum.
  • Dammstraße: full closure by June 30, 2025 due to cable.
  • Dorfstraße: full closure by June 20, 2025 due to channel work.
  • Nordschule stop: half -sided closure until August 29, 2025 due to the renovation of the tram stop.

With a view to the coming months, it is clear that Jena is experiencing an exciting phase of growth and upgrading public transport. Hopefully the patience of the residents will soon pay off if the trams can do their laps again and that everyday life is made easier.
