What can you get on weekends? This is an absolute insider tip Anatomical collection in Jena. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in an exhibition that is over 200 years old and houses more than 1,500 human specimens as well as 500 models and casts. The collection is accessible on Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free, but children under 12 are only allowed in when accompanied by an adult.
Autumn romance in Freyburg
Fancy a trip to the wine region? Then off to Freyburg an der Unstrut! Autumn romance is very important here. From tasting wine to relaxing hiking and cycling tours to the historic Neuchâtel Castle, there is a lot to experience. The castle offers insights into archaeological finds from the 14th century. Opening times are currently from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in October and until 5 p.m. in November.
The entrance fees are moderate: the core castle costs 6.50 euros for adults, 4 euros reduced. If you want to see the “Dicker Wilhelm” keep, the entrance fee is 2.50 euros for adults and 1.50 euros reduced.
DOK Festival in Leipzig
The DOK Festival in Leipzig also attracts many film and culture enthusiasts. From October 27th to November 2nd, 2025, a total of 252 films will be shown here, including fascinating documentaries and animated films. Particularly worth mentioning is the “Immaterial” exhibition in the Heilandskirche Westkreuz, which is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entry is free, and for those who want to experience more, there is streaming access for just five euros on the festival website.
The excursion is rounded off by the song “ November 2nd ” by the Bremen hip-hop duo Dramadigs, which has traditionally been played on November 2nd since its release in 2011 and introduces a special atmosphere.
