Jena beats Magdeburg 2-1 - moments of shock and injuries over Halloween!
On October 31, 2025, the stadium in Jena was the scene of an exciting game between FC Carl Zeiss Jena and the U23 of 1. FC Magdeburg, which ended in a 2-1 win for the hosts. In a match that picked up pace, especially in the second half, Jena was able to further underline its ambitions in the fight for promotion in the Regionalliga Nordost.
With this victory, FC Carl Zeiss Jena remains in second place in the table, tied with 33 points, but behind leaders 1. FC Lok Leipzig. The difference to Magdeburg, who are in tenth place with 17 points, was clearly noticeable. Coach Volkan Uluc opted for a changed lineup and made five changes to the starting line-up to bring in a breath of fresh air.
An exciting game with unforeseen twists and turns
The first half clearly belonged to the hosts, but there were no significant chances to score. Nils Butzen missed the best opportunity in the 29th minute. But things started to change after halftime: Timon Burmeister scored the opening goal in the 54th minute. Shortly afterwards, Butzen increased the score to 2-0 after a corner in the 67th minute. In stoppage time, Stefan Korsch scored for Magdeburg and marked the final score.
However, a sad incident overshadowed the victory: Manasse Eshele was injured after an unfortunate collision and was taken to the hospital. Alexander Prokopenko also suffered a painful dislocation of his finger, which fortunately was quickly treated. When the injury occurred, Prokopenko had an unhappy look at the ground as he straddled. The team doctor was able to adjust the finger on the pitch so that Prokopenko could continue playing with a bandage - a brave performance! Sports1 reports that these events turned the game into a nightmarish Halloween evening.
