Keith Braxton: Science City Jena secures the ProA MVP!

The Basketball Bundesliga is getting a new star: Science City Jena has signed Keith Braxton, the most valuable player (MVP) of the 2025 ProA season. The 28-year-old swingman is moving from VfL SparkassenStars Bochum to Jena and will strengthen the team not only with his offensive skills, but also with his team player mentality. Last season, Braxton catapulted Bochum into the playoffs, where he averaged 20.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He was not only the best player in his league, but also an indispensable part of the team that celebrated its first appearance in the playoffs.

Keith Braxton, a native of Franklinville, New Jersey, has had a remarkable basketball journey. He spent his college years at Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania between 2016 and 2020. His career then took him through various European countries, including Israel, Belgium and Sweden, before he moved to the German ProA. Here he impressed with his skills and quickly attracted attention, so that Jena's coach Björn Harmsen sees him as the ideal reinforcement for his team. Harmsen particularly emphasizes Braxton's versatile style of play and his ability to make decisive contributions both offensively and defensively, which can be extremely valuable for his team.

Contract until 2026

The move to Jena was officially announced on June 21, 2025. Braxton has signed a contract until the summer of 2026, which not only gives Science City the security of having an outstanding player in the team, but also the chance to establish themselves in the Bundesliga in the long term. The fans can already look forward to his first appearances, as Braxton is expected to start training in Jena on August 11th.

Braxton's move is not the only movement in the Science City Jena squad. Other changes are also coming. Zach Cooks is leaving the club to move to Telekom Baskets Bonn, and Robin Lodders is being transferred to Göttingen. At the same time, Jena has extended Alex Herrera until 2026, which is another positive sign for the club's sporting future.
