Ticket prices in derby stress: Jena fans outraged about 20 euro fees!
On November 28, 2025, football will experience an exciting encounter in the Steigerwaldstadion when FC Carl Zeiss Jena meets Rot-Weiß Erfurt. For both fan camps, the focus is not only on the game, but also on the discussion about ticket prices. How Picture reported, the pricing is raising eyebrows among FCC supporters.
A guest ticket for the encounter costs 20 euros, including an advance booking fee of 2 euros charged by FC Carl Zeiss Jena. Those responsible for the club, led by managing director Patrick Widera, explain that these fees are necessary to cover the additional costs of ticket sales. “However, 20 euros for a standing room ticket is an exception,” says Widera. Franz Gerber, managing director of Rot-Weiß Erfurt, sees it similarly. He attributes the high prices to extensive security precautions and a resident protection concept, which also causes costs.
Fan community reacts to ticket prices
The criticism from Jena fans is loud and clear. In particular, the pricing and advance booking fees bother many people, as the original 17 euros rise to 20 euros due to the additional fees. Fans even have to dig deep into their pockets for the west stand: tickets here cost up to 33 euros, with the cheaper seats being on the edges.
Interestingly, the 1,500 tickets that were on sale were sold out within a very short time. This suggests that the derby is still a hot ticket despite the high prices. Rot-Weiß Erfurt assumes that the game can be reported as “sold out” by Wednesday at the latest. This speaks for the unbroken enthusiasm of football fans, even if the prices continue to cause debate.
Holidays and football combined
The derby comes at an interesting time, not least because many people also take a look at their leisure plans in the November months. There are numerous holidays coming up in November, which provide a welcome opportunity for short vacations and year-end celebrations for many people. The Día de la Soberanía Nacional is celebrated on November 20th, which in turn is a way for many to enjoy the long weekend.
However, with the derby on November 28th, the anticipation of this holiday will be more difficult for many football fans. Nevertheless, we can only hope that the price discussion does not spoil the fun of the game and that the fans can follow this trend-setting duel in full numbers.
