Maintenance work in the Jena swimming paradise: Hall closed until July 27th!

In Jena, maintenance of the “Schwimmparadies Jena” sports swimming pool is currently in full swing. The popular sports facility has been closed since Friday, July 11, 2025 for scheduled cleaning and maintenance work. This measure is part of the regular maintenance planning, which ensures the safety and operational comfort of visitors, as the Jena public utility company announced in a recent announcement. The hall is scheduled to reopen on Monday, July 28, 2025.

The water is currently being drained from the large 50-meter pool, which holds around 2,100 cubic meters. In addition to cleaning work, there are also minor repairs to be made. This includes, among other things, cleaning tiles and joints and replacing damaged tiles. The ventilation and safety technology as well as the sanitary facilities and the lifting floor are also put to the test. In coordination with around 15 specialist companies, we ensure that everything functions perfectly after the maintenance work.

Maintenance brings benefits

The closing time is used not only for cleaning the pools, but also for maintaining the technical systems. While the competition pool is being cleaned, the teaching pool requires similar treatment. This must also be refilled and heated up again after cleaning. Different time frames are planned for this - depending on the pool: While the teaching pool with a water temperature of at least 31 degrees Celsius can be used again after about a week, the large pool is heated up within four to five days.

For all swimming enthusiasts who don't want to miss out on training during this time, there is an alternative to the GalaxSea leisure pool and the outdoor pools in Jena. This is seen as a good way to bridge the time until reopening.

Federal funding for sports facilities

The extensive maintenance work in the “Jena Swimming Paradise” is part of a larger trend that is supported by the federal program for the renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sport, youth and culture. This program, which has been running since 2016, aims to reduce the renovation backlog of social infrastructure such as swimming pools and sports facilities. Thanks to this initiative, 904 projects with funding of around 1.5 billion euros have been selected by 2021, as can be read on the website of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction (BMWSB). BMWSB reports a focus on energy-efficient renovation to achieve climate goals, which could also be important for the maintenance work in Jena.

Overall, the ongoing maintenance measures ensure that the “Jena Swimming Paradise” remains an attractive destination for swimmers of all ages in the future.
