Peaceful coexistence: Opera gala delights in Nordhausen!
Yesterday evening, September 6, 2025, the eagerly awaited opera gala took place in the Nordhausen Theater, which was celebrated as the ceremonial opening of the new season under the motto “European Relations”. Intendant Daniel Klajner opened the event with inspiring words and set a warm tone for what awaits the audience.
The gala offered a colorful program in which works from different musical eras and nations were performed. The selection of pieces was not chosen at random: it aimed to set an example for peaceful coexistence and creative exchange in these tense times. This theme can also be found in the extensive history of cultural exchange within Europe, such as in Goethe's “Faust” or Puccini's “La Bohème”.
Musical performances and international talent
The spectators were able to admire extraordinary talents. Sopranos such as Julia Ermakova from St. Petersburg and Yuval Oren from Jerusalem thrilled the audience with their powerful voices. Baritone Florian Tavic, known for his performances in Nordhausen, also brought his impressive performance to the stage.
The musical direction was taken over by GMD Gábor Hontvári, who not only conducted the event but also created a personal setting with his moderation. Under his direction, the Loh Orchestra, which consists of musicians from various nations, proved to be a harmonious unit. During the emotional interpretation of the Intermezzo sinfonico, the diversity of the performances became particularly noticeable.
Awards ceremony and outlook for the season
A highlight of the gala was the awarding of the theater prize to tenor Kyounghan Seo, which was celebrated with long-lasting applause by the visitors. The visitors were not only treated to musical delicacies, but also to impressive stage decorations that harmoniously matched the works performed.
Exciting performances are planned for the coming season. The mix ranges from Benjamin Prins’ interpretation of Jacques Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffmann” to the premiere of Daniel Klajner’s production of “The Christmas Bells”. Further highlights include “The Barber of Seville” and Franz Lehár’s operetta “The Land of Smiles”. These programs reflect the lively international collaboration that makes Theater Nordhausen an important meeting point for cultural exchange.
European theater landscape in transition
The importance of such events is underlined by the challenges facing the European theater landscape today. Topics such as interculturality and multilingualism shape current discussions. The artistic exchange is influenced by the changes of the last decades, which are characterized by globalization, digitalization and migration. These developments require theaters to rethink the structures and aesthetics they represent.
The opera gala in Nordhausen is therefore more than just a cultural event - it is a sign of the commitment that Europe's stages show to creative dialogue and cultural diversity. Viewers can look forward to an exciting season enriched by the exchange of ideas and traditions.
For everyone who missed the opera gala, there are already other dates such as September 20th and September 28th, 2025 that should not be missed. Definitely worth a visit!
