René Buchmann: CSU candidate for mayor of Plieningen!

The political course for the future of Pliening is being set slowly but surely. René Buchmann, the CSU's mayoral candidate, announced that he would run for the office of mayor in the local elections on March 8, 2026. The 44-year-old has been the local chairman of the CSU since 2019 and has been on the local council since 2020, where he works as spokesman for the CSU parliamentary group. With the departure of Roland Frick, who will no longer stand for election for reasons of age, Buchmann sees his chance.

Buchmann, who has lived in Pliening since 2008 and was born in Nordhausen, Thuringia, wants to offer stability at the top of the town hall. At the same time, he would like to bring a breath of fresh air and plans to push forward the digitization of the town hall and communication. “There’s something going on,” he expressed his ambitions in a recently published interview. Also on his agenda is the complete renovation of the elementary school, a project that has already been approved by the local council.

Campaign goals and challenges

“Strengthening the revenue side will be a central challenge,” emphasizes Buchmann. As a trained banker and graduate in business administration, he brings with him a solid economic foundation. He is currently working as a director in corporate banking at a medium-sized bank. He also wants to “have a good hand” in implementing his goals for Pliening, because the community has big plans, especially in the areas of education and digitalization.

The CSU local association has 122 members, making it the fourth largest in the Ebersberg district. His voluntary commitments include several years as a youth and treasurer at the tennis club as well as his work on the board of the youth room support association, which was reopened after a long period of closure. According to Buchmann, the list of candidates for the local council has already been determined, and the goal for the local elections is ambitious: nine seats plus the mayor's office, currently there are eight seats plus the mayor.

A look at the election

How the local elections in Bavaria work is already well documented. Local representatives in cities, municipalities and districts will be elected on March 8, 2026. This date was chosen to separate it from the Easter holidays, as pnp.de reports. The last municipal and district elections took place on March 15, 2020. The calculation method according to Sainte-Laguё/Schepers is used to distribute the votes, in which the total number of votes is divided by odd numbers. This ensures a fair distribution of seats, with lots deciding in the event of a tie.

In a community with 7,000 residents and 20 council seats available, this process can be crucial for everyone involved. So it remains to be seen how the voters in Pliening will set the course for the coming years.
