Drunk citizen threatens passers-by with machete in Eisenberg!

In the last few days, Eisenberg (Saale-Holzland district) has been shaken by two threatening incidents. A 55-year-old man threatened passers-by with a machete, while another incident in a bar heated up tempers.

On Thursday afternoon around 3 p.m., a worrying situation arose in a garden when the 55-year-old in question picked up the machete and threatened passers-by with it. Fortunately, everyone involved was unharmed as the weapon was not used. A police patrol was able to quickly overpower the man and seize the machete. An alcohol test showed 2.0 per mille - a value that indicates serious memory and orientation problems, which the German Central Office for Addiction Issues confirms. The man was sent off, but he has drawn attention to similar incidents in the past, including threatening police officers with a knife two weeks ago. Here it even had 2.7 per thousand.

Difficult situation in a restaurant

At the same time, on Thursday evening, another incident occurred in a restaurant on Gutenbergstrasse. A 48-year-old man injured two other men there with an iron bar and a knife. The suspected perpetrator was caught the following night. Details about the injured and the exact motive are not yet known, but such incidents shed a worrying light on the propensity for violence in the region.

These incidents are related to the widespread problem of alcohol-related aggression. This type of violence causes not only personal suffering but also social and economic costs. According to a study, 31.8% of all violent crimes in Germany in 2011 were committed under the influence of alcohol. This shows how powerful cognitions and experiences combined with alcohol can contribute to aggressive behavior.

Complex causes of aggression

The connection between alcohol consumption and willingness to act aggressively is influenced by a variety of factors. People who drink heavily are three times more likely to be involved in violent incidents than those who drink moderately. The social environment also plays an important role. Once again it becomes clear that responsible use of alcohol is crucial not only for the individual, but for society.

The recent events in Eisenberg are a strong reminder to take the dangers of alcohol abuse and the associated violence seriously. The police are investigating both cases in order to prevent further similar incidents and to bring justice to the victims.
