District farmers' association elects new board: A breath of fresh air for agriculture!

On November 4th, the general meeting of the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt District Farmers' Association (SFR) took place in the customs house in Kamsdorf. A new board was elected, which provided a breath of fresh air in the association. Dirk Reichelt, who continues to act as chairman of the board, informed those present about the association's activities for the year 2024/2025. The positive progress of the LEADER project, which organizes monthly teaching instructions for trainees, was particularly pleasing, an important step in promoting young talent in agriculture. The successes of this initiative show that we have a good hand when it comes to training young people.

After the financial report and the financial audit, the board received discharge. New to the board is Ronny Jahn from Agrar GmbH Dorfilm, who will bring fresh ideas to the association's work. At his side is Dr. Stefan Gutbier as deputy chairman of the Schmiedefelder Alm.

Current trends and challenges in agriculture

An important part of the meeting was the report by Beate Köber-Fleck, the general manager of the Thuringian Farmers' Association. She spoke about the current situation in agriculture and agricultural policy activities, in particular the upcoming negotiations on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) at European level. There is a lot to do here as there are many changes coming that will have a direct impact on local farmers.

Dr. Jan Scheinert, the official veterinarian, also had important information to offer. He lectured on pressing animal health issues, including avian influenza, tuberculosis and bluetongue. Such information is particularly important in order to protect companies from possible health risks and to act effectively.

Committed members and the exchange of ideas

Annerose Blöttner, from the state senior citizens' association SFR, focused on the high regional demand for training offers. More offers are being sought, particularly in the area of traffic safety, which shows that there is a strong interest in further training and safety. Dirk Reichelt thanked the members for their active participation and emphasized how important it is to represent the interests of agriculture to politicians.

The general meeting was accompanied by thematic discussions in which members and guests from administration, politics and industry-related associations took part. These discussions provide a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and develop concepts that meet the needs of the industry. A successful dinner rounded off the evening and created a pleasant atmosphere for exchange among those present.

The district farmers' association appears to be well positioned and ready to actively meet the challenges of the coming years. The cooperation and commitment of all members is of central importance here, and it will be interesting to see what steps will follow next. The association will continue to be an important contact for all questions relating to agriculture in the region.
