Train in need: General renovation is delayed until 2035!

Deutsche Bahn has big plans, because the ailing rail network urgently needs a refreshment. The general renovation of important railway lines is currently on the agenda until 2035 - four years longer than originally considered. This information was presented at an industry forum other transport companies and associations, such as Feature of the Features . An important part of these renovation measures affects the Riedbahn between Frankfurt and Mannheim, the general renovation of which started last year.

But that was just the beginning. A few days ago, Deutsche Bahn was able to report the first successes after five months of renovation: from this evening, 11 p.m., trains will return to the Riedbahn. The large closing event for the re -release of the route takes place in Gernsheim. This ambitious renovation included the renewal of 111 kilometers of tracks, 152 soft and more than 600 signals. The aim is to reduce operational disorders by up to 80 percent, such as the Deutsche Bahn expressed.

step by step for better infrastructure

The period of the general renovation is not only used intensively on the Riedbahn. The overall strategy will include the renovation of 40 sections of the route throughout the rail network by 2030. These comprehensive renovation and modernization work should help to benefit from the rail infrastructure even better in the future, so .

A cooperative approach has a top priority: The selection of the routes is selected in close coordination with the federal government, authorities, rail traffic companies and associations. Clear interfaces have to be created between the goals - more powerful routes, more punctual trains and higher capacities - and the challenges that such a major project brings. Engineers and those responsible are required to reduce the renovation backlog in the rail infrastructure.

A look at the coming months

Probably from December 15th, all long -distance trains will be able to drive again according to timetable via the Riedbahn. Nevertheless, the regulation in regional traffic remains a challenge: the lines RE70 and S7 are served regularly, some sections still have to be replaced by buses. This extensive redirection has already led 8,000 trains over alternative routes during the renovation work, on average with punctuality of 73 percent.

With around 150 replacement buses, which together covered around six million kilometers, 89 percent of passengers were able to evaluate their experiences with a school grade of one or two. The experience from the renovation measures gained should also flow into the planning of future projects to improve the rail network and could thus make a contribution to a more sustainable and efficient traffic structure in the long term.
