Volunteering in southern Thuringia: New ideas for a strong club community!

Today, November 11th, 2025, the “Club whispering” event took place in Oberhof, which was organized by the Municipal Working Group (KAG) South Thuringia. Around 80 participants from the cities of Oberhof, Schleusingen, Suhl and Zella-Mehlis actively took part in the event. Voluntary officer Guntram Wothly presented the new Thuringian Voluntary Work Act, which is intended not only to promote voluntary work, but also to provide concrete grants for projects, support for qualifications and help in cases of hardship. insuedthueringen.de reports that ...

With this law, the Thuringian state parliament passed the first volunteer law in Germany on June 7, 2024, which regulates the framework conditions for civic engagement in accordance with Article 41a of the Thuringian constitution. As a result, a state program was launched to sustainably strengthen voluntary commitment, and the Thuringian state government is providing funding of between 5,000 and 100,000 euros for non-profit associations and initiatives. thueringer-ehrenamtsstiftung.de adds that…

Fruitful discussions and suggestions

The participants had many questions about the application process and response times, which shows the keen interest in the funds available. In feedback after the event, 19 people said they received practical suggestions, while 13 developed new project ideas and 12 felt motivated to take action.Nine participants made new contacts and seven reported increased visibility of their clubs.

An extremely interesting suggestion came in the form of a “bulletin board” for networking club offers, which was put forward by those present. In addition, 22 participants would like to gain insights into how other clubs work, which could promote networking and exchange. In order to further improve the visibility of volunteer work and cultural workers, the KAG plans to make greater use of new social media channels.

Outlook for next year

The KAG's commitment will continue in the coming year: The series of events will continue in 2026 and the topics will come from the association landscape and from experts. It is clear that the aim of the KAG is not only to promote club life, but also to increase the quality of life in the region.

Applications for the Thuringian state government's new funding program can now be submitted since August 11, 2025. Applications must be submitted to the Thuringian State Administration Office and the deadline for 2025 is September 15th; for 2026 it begins on December 1st and ends on April 15th. This is a great opportunity for many who want to get involved in volunteer work or are already involved, to give new impetus and expand their commitment.
