Meiningen cycles: the hat festival and rally inspire the region!
Cycling picked up speed again in Meiningen this weekend. Last Saturday the city celebrated the traditional hat festival and at the same time the start of this year's city cycling campaign, which runs until July 4th. Mayor Kay Goßmann from Brotterode-Trusetal ensured a warm welcome for the numerous cyclists who came from various corners of the district, including Schmalkalden and Steinbach-Hallenberg. With summer temperatures around 30 degrees, they moved to Anton-Ulrich-Straße, where the festival and the rally reached their climax. InSüdThüringen reports that not only those present, but also schools and school classes are cordially invited to join the campaign and eagerly collect kilometers.
The city cycling campaign has now become firmly established in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district. The third year of participation saw a further increase in participation. In order to give this movement even more tailwind, all citizens are called upon to register as individuals or in teams. The competition offers a special incentive, offering prizes worth a total of 1,000 euros for the most active person, the strongest team and the most hard-working school. Members of local parliaments also take part in this section. Werratal emphasizes that all kilometers can be recorded via a digital kilometer book or the CITY CYCLING app in order to track the environmentally friendly services.
A step for climate and cycling protection
However, the idea behind CITY CYCLING goes beyond mere competition. The campaign, which has been active in Germany since 2008, aims to get people excited about cycling and at the same time give a strong boost to climate protection. My bicycle homepage describes how numerous municipalities are taking part in the campaign and showing exemplary initiatives to promote cycling as a climate-friendly mobility alternative. Whoever can win first place among the most active cycling teams or local parliaments will be particularly celebrated in this competition.
Various events and cycle tours organized by the cities and the AG Radverkehr are intended to create further incentives. Anyone who lives or works in the district has the opportunity to take part in this valuable initiative. And it’s not just adults who can cycle – schools and school classes have the chance to create their own category called “school cycling”. In addition, participation in the campaign could further increase the visibility of cycling in the region.
Overall, city cycling offers a great opportunity to collect kilometers together, experience the fun of cycling and at the same time make an active contribution to climate protection. So if you're not there yet, you should ask around as quickly as possible, join a team or start one yourself and record your bike tours over the next few weeks. Get on your saddles, get ready, go!
