New special education support area opened in Schmalkalden!

A new star shines in the social sky of Schmalkalden with the ceremonial opening of the special education support area Immanuel Life Center. After 22 months of intensive construction and an investment volume of around 3.6 million euros, the redesigned area can now open its doors. This represents a significant step in supporting people with disabilities in the region.

The inauguration took place in a festive setting and brought together many local actors who are committed to an inclusive society. Among the guests were important personalities such as Pastor Michael Noss, Mayor Thomas Kaminski and Cornelia Matthes from the city administration. The new special education support area extends over 720 square meters and offers space for up to 36 people who have mental, physical or psychological impairments.

A place of participation and independence

The motto of the opening ceremony, “Open. Discover. Participate.”, symbolizes the vision of the new center. Individual needs should be the focus here and needs-based support is offered from Monday to Friday. The barrier-free and modern rooms are designed to promote the independence and independence of visitors.

The offerings include individual and group special education support, professional orientation as well as creative, culinary and domestic activities. This concept integrates important aspects of inclusion according to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities aims at the equal participation of all people. Inclusion is understood as a natural right that everyone is entitled to, regardless of appearance or abilities.

A network for an inclusive society

Around 20 companies, institutions and clubs took part in the inauguration event to form a network for participation in the Schmalkalden social space. This network aims to support people in their self-determination and to break down barriers that make it difficult to fully participate in social life.

With over 150 years of experience in supporting people with disabilities, the Immanuel Diakonie South Thuringia laid the necessary foundation to follow this path with empathy and skills. With a strong team of around 8,000 employees in 100 facilities, the goal is clear: an inclusive future in which no one is left behind.

The opening of the new special education support area shows how important participation and inclusion are in our society. It's a bold step in the right direction that inspires thought and action and shows that we can and should all have a place in this community.
