Südlink: Citizen participation on new plan changes until July 23rd!

A lot has happened in recent weeks with regard to the important SuedLink infrastructure project. On May 20, the company TransnetBW officially applied for the second change to the plan for section D1, which extends from the Hesse/Thuringia federal state border to the southern border within Thuringia. The requested changes include, among other things, a number of structural adjustments, such as the addition of six soil treatment plants in the areas of the construction site facilities and the replanning of the access road Z-D1-35-022 in the Oberellen district, Gerstungen municipality. There will also be a recalculation of the compensation in Bavaria and an application for clear-cutting for a forest west of Wasungen. These adjustments are necessary in order to further advance preparations for the upcoming construction work.

Public participation until July 23rd

Particularly important in this context is renewed public participation, which is required due to the plan changes. Affected citizens have the opportunity to submit their comments on the changed plans, which are available on the Federal Network Agency website, until July 23rd. It should be noted that the statements refer exclusively to changes to the documents that have already been made available.

Loud TransnetBW The planning approval documents for the approximately 75 kilometer long SuedLink section from Sallmannshausen to Eußenhausen have already been submitted. The planning approval decision is expected in late summer 2024, and consideration is also being given to initiating early construction work from autumn 2023. What does this mean for the region?

The SuedLink project is of fundamental importance for the energy transition in Germany. Once the connection is completed, it will serve as a direct current underground cable connection connecting the wind-rich regions of northern Germany with Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg from the end of 2028. The entire route of around 700 kilometers will be one of the largest infrastructure projects of our time, with an investment amount of around 10 billion euros.
