Big celebrations were on the program: from an official festival commander who started at 10:00 a.m., through a technology show to exciting show exercises. During the commerce, numerous guests from politics, fire brigade associations and city life showed themselves. From 1:00 p.m., visitors can experience modern fire engineering up close before the emergency services performed impressive realistic scenarios from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A look back at the story

The Sonneberg volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1850 after a devastating city fire. This made them the oldest fire brigade in the Free State of Thuringia and the second oldest in all of Germany. Today the fire brigade Sonneberg-Mitte comprises 56 active members who are available around the clock for the fire protection of the population. This is not only a sign of tradition, but also for the tireless use of the volunteers, who often ensure the safety of fellow citizens in their free time.

The organization of the volunteer fire brigade is widespread in Germany, and this form of fire protection has a long tradition. There are a total of 2,074 cities in Germany, with only 102 having a professional fire brigade. In the other cities, as in Sonneberg, volunteers take on active fire fighting. The importance of voluntary fire departments emphasizes that this model works so well in German -speaking countries.

a worthy festive evening

The musical evening from 7:00 p.m. on the Woolworth site was the crowning conclusion of the festival day. Here, too, the good mood was not only fueled by the live music of the band "Why not" until midnight, but above all through the joy over 175 years of voluntary use for the security of the city.

In view of these outstanding achievements, it is hardly surprising that the event pursued the goal of not only celebrating the history of the fire brigade, but also making its important role again in today's world. The Sonneberg volunteer fire brigade has a good hand when it comes to combining tradition and modernity - the citizens can rightly be proud of this.
