Trade unionists in the Sonneberg district: Where is the problem?”

Things will be going well in the Sonneberg district in the coming days! The German Federation of Trade Unions (DGB) Hesse-Thuringia is starting an exciting marketplace tour under the motto “Where are the pinches?” stands. The aim of this initiative is to offer citizens the opportunity to talk directly to trade unionists and express their concerns. Denny Möller from the DGB emphasizes the importance of exchange, especially in rural areas, where such opportunities are often few and far between.

During the summer holidays the tour will take place in five different locations, which are intended to be a place not only for conversation but also for listening. Here is an overview of the dates:

Date time Location
July 29th 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Neuhaus market square on Rennweg
July 31st 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Schalkau market
August 5th 11 a.m. to 4 p.m Lauscha hut area
August 6th 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Steinach market square
August 7th 8 a.m. to 1 p.m Sonneberg monthly market

Important topics in focus

The tour will discuss key issues such as working hours, healthcare, social security and the fair distribution of property. Interested citizens are welcome to share their opinions and perspectives. The DGB would like to create a forum in which people can be listened to and issues that concern them can be discussed openly. “We want to develop a dialogue that is beneficial for everyone involved,” Möller continued.

This marketplace tour is just one of many projects that the DGB has planned in the coming months. For example, the conference “Stick together! Act together!” will take place on September 30, 2025. which deals with the topic of insults, threats and attacks in professional life. Here too, different actors such as those affected, interest groups, employers and unions will come together to develop solutions and strengthen protection in everyday life. The DGB has also teamed up with the “Never forget, a person works here” initiative to promote awareness of respectful cooperation. This conference will be held at the EUREF campus in Berlin.

October 7, 2025 will also mark World Decent Work Day, a day that has been used by unions worldwide since 2008 to draw attention to the need for fair working conditions and fair wages. This commitment has become particularly louder recently as workplace challenges have increased.

Focus on a healthy working world

The topic of health is another major concern of the DGB. The Schöneberger Forum with the title “Making work healthy – What staff councils can achieve” will take place on November 18th and 19th, 2025. The focus here is on the health and health maintenance of employees. The tasks and influence of staff councils will be analyzed in plenary sessions and specialist forums - an important step towards healthy working environments in all areas.

In summary, the DGB initiative in Sonneberg and the upcoming events clearly show that the dialogue between citizens and trade unions should be promoted. Whether it's about everyday concerns or far-reaching issues, everyone is invited to raise their voices and take an active part. The DGB creates space in which no question is too small and no concern is too insignificant. More information about the events can be found on the DGB website.
