Cultural frenzy in Sonneberg: 1,500 celebrating dancers in the city center!

A big festival was celebrated in the heart of Sonneberg on the second weekend in June 2025, which attracted numerous visitors to the city center. The Kulturrausch festival, which took place on the former Woolworth site right next to the town hall, became the center of events. Already on Friday evening, the security forces counted around 1,500 guests, most of whom came from the young generation and enjoyed the beats of three DJs who invited people to dance. The highlight of the festival was on Saturday evening when the event began at 8 p.m. with a “Mega 90s/2000s Party”. Hits from iconic artists such as the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and Scooter could not be missing here. Singing along, dancing along and laughing along were expressly encouraged, and so the square was transformed into a large celebration zone full of memories and good spirits.

Outlook on upcoming events

But that's not all: the Kulturrausch Festival is set to open its doors again! From June 21st to 25th, the festival meadow next to the town hall square will once again be the stage for a varied program at the city open-air event. The cooperation between the Gesellschaftshaus Sonneberg and the Schlossberg event location promises a colorful offering that has something for everyone. On the first evening there is a foolish laugh night with “Sumbarcher Waschweiber” and friends, followed by other live acts such as the Keimzeit Akustik Quintett on Thursday and a summer rave on Friday with Dr. Motte from Berlin and other DJs. On Saturday, visitors can expect a lively VolXXLIGA show, before a family-friendly afternoon with student bands from the music school and a children's opera on Sunday.

The ticket price for the event is a fair 10 euros per day, and the best thing: Sunday is even free! Local providers provide the catering and offer, among other things, pizza, burgers and refreshing drinks. Details about the events can be found on the Schlossberg Event Location website.
