Showcase of talent: Trainees show toy art in the town hall!

In the town of Sonneberg, the craft of toy making is widely celebrated. A creatively designed shop window in the town hall is currently attracting attention and showing the impressive skills of aspiring toy manufacturers in their first year of training. This campaign not only serves to promote the training course, but also to put the craft in the region in the spotlight. Yesterday, an official thank you went to the vocational students of the Sonneberg State Vocational School (SBBS) from the deputy mayors Martin Stingl and Christian Dressel. Loud insuedthueringen.de The window displays a variety of plush toys sewn by the students themselves, as well as board games, some of which were even designed as part of the training program.

But the shop window is more than just a stylish sight: it also leads via a QR code to an information page about training to become a toy manufacturer. The path to this demanding, three-year dual training course at SBBS is open until the beginning of the 2025/26 school year. In order to gain a foothold there, interested young people simply need a training contract with a company in the toy industry.

A special training

The SBBS is the only school in Germany to offer a specialist class for toy manufacturers. This specialist class enables trainees to acquire in-depth knowledge of toy manufacturing. During the training, students learn everything about planning and preparing work processes, operating machines and processing various materials. Quality assurance and the finishing of the surfaces are also very important, as is the case sbbs-son.de reported.

The training is varied and includes both theoretical and practical components. Students have the opportunity to work in different workshops such as woodworking and textile processing and also learn how to interpret and prepare technical documents. All of this takes place as part of a dual training course, which already includes proven knowledge of dealing with various materials and production processes. Other learning content includes economics, social studies and, of course, interdisciplinary topics.

Perspectives in the toy industry

Looking at the working world in the toy industry, the prospects for qualified specialists are extremely promising. This industry is continuously growing and the demand for high-quality, safe and sustainably produced toys is increasing. The training paths are diverse, such as life-in-germany.de explains: After training, there are many opportunities available, ranging from design and production to marketing and sales.

Training managers and former trainees actively support the students. Tamara Voß, who recently graduated, helps the current apprentices implement their creative ideas. The specialist teachers Heike Kemnitz and Gerson Wieberneit also play a crucial role in the implementation of the project. Their goal is not only to promote the skills of the students, but also to make the craft known in the region.

The numbers speak for themselves: Over 110,000 tons of toys were produced in Germany with a turnover of around 3.2 billion euros, and the potential for this is enormous. With in-depth training at SBBS, students are well prepared for their future careers in an exciting and diverse industry.
