Thuringia is breaking new ground: billions invested in construction projects!
Something is happening in the field of building construction in Thuringia! A groundbreaking agreement was signed on Monday that brings the Thuringia State Development Corporation (LEG) into play. From now on, LEG will take over the state's construction projects, especially if it can implement them faster and more efficiently than the state's traditional building construction administration. MDR reports that such a public-public partnership should pave the way for faster implementation of construction projects that are urgently needed. LEG will assume responsibility for the construction and then rent the demolished buildings to the state.
Which projects are on the list now? The first projects are already planned and include the new building of the Thuringian State Finance Office in Erfurt, police stations in Sonneberg and Gera and a new boarding school building for the education center in Gotha. Some of these concerns have been waiting for years to be implemented, but now the collaboration with LEG should bring a breath of fresh air. In addition to accelerating processing, this project also aims to clear the existing renovation backlog. Finance Thuringia emphasizes that LEG already has decades of experience in housing and Commercial real estate construction has.
Financing and investments
When it comes to the question of financing, the Free State of Thuringia has planned a considerable total investment volume of 200 to 300 million euros for this public-public partnership. That gives us hope for a lot! It should not be forgotten that Thuringia invested around 146.6 million euros in real estate and properties last year. This sum was confirmed by the Ministry for Digital and Infrastructure in Erfurt. Die Thuringer also speaks of the goal of creating functioning, climate-friendly and digitally improved infrastructure.
An important focus is also on improving the teaching and research conditions at Thuringian universities as well as the working and living situation for the state offices. In the coming year, the focus will once again be on renovation projects, including the energy-efficient renovation of the sports hall at the University of Erfurt and the construction of a new teaching and research building for the Cooperative State University on the Gera campus, for which the topping-out ceremony has already been celebrated.
A look into the future
The goal is clear: Thuringia not only wants to cut off old habits, but also take new paths to make the infrastructure fit for the future. This also includes energy-efficient measures that meet the requirements of the current time. The renovation and expansion of existing properties are also on the agenda, for example the state fire brigade and disaster control school in Bad Köstritz and the Saale-Orla police station in Schleiz, where the foundation stone has already been laid.
With this ambitious package of projects and investments, Thuringia not only wants to clear the renovation backlog, but also take a step into the modern future. The cooperation with LEG seems to be a good plan - we can't wait to see how the first construction projects progress!
