The bird shooting in Sonneberg is just around the corner and promises to become a highlight in the event calendar this year. From July 6th to 14th, 2024, the city belongs entirely to the fans of the rifle use. Every year the event attracts numerous visitors who want to enjoy society, culinary delights and the shooting competitions. The Schießhausplatz becomes the scene of traditional competitions and social entertainment.

The official opening will take place on Saturday, July 6th, at 4 p.m. The beer tapping and the firecrackers mark the beginning of an exciting week, which is rounded off with a rousing performance of the band "Still a Live". A colorful program is waiting for the guests, which also inspires the little ones. On Monday, July 8th, there will be a big MINT reduction day on which vouchers for rides and pension stands are raffled off.

The rifle parade on Sunday, July 7th is an integral part of the celebrations. At 3 p.m. it starts from the Evangelical Church to the marquee, where the royal process will take place. Here is also the place for the evaluation of the competitions that took place throughout June.

A real bargain for the parents: On Tuesday, July 9, the shooting day opens its gates, and children from the age of 6 can shoot the laser rifle free of charge. But adults are not neglected either - on Wednesday and Friday the competitions for the Cup of the city of Sonneberg are on the program. The KK rifle is shot here at 50 meters, whereby the minimum age for the participants is 18 years.

The crowning glory will take place on Sunday, July 14th, from 9 a.m. with the traditional bird shot. Here, a bird dummy is shot that is 30 meters away. There are material prizes for each shot down, and the grand finale is accompanied by the award ceremony at 5 p.m. The folk shooting king is also crowned, which is always a very special moment.

If you look at the roots of bird shooting, you can see that it is a traditional method to determine the rifle king. The winner is crowned as the shooter who gets the last piece of the wooden bird, even if many events are now geared towards targets, which makes participation more accessible to all age groups.
