Current crime situation

The development of crime in Germany has been quite complex in recent years. According to the police crime statistics from the Federal Criminal Police Office There was a decrease in crimes of 1.7% to around 5.84 million cases in 2024. A main reason for this decline is fewer cannabis crimes, which can be attributed to partial legalization since April 1, 2024. Nevertheless, there is a noticeable increase in crimes that affect citizens' sense of security.

In statistics, thefts, fraud and crimes of brutality are particularly common. Crimes against life, such as murder and manslaughter, account for only 0.1% of registered cases, while sexual offenses account for 2.2%. What is particularly striking is that in 2024 the proportion of non-German suspects rose to 41.8%, which also contributes to the discussion about the crime situation. In addition, compared to previous years, convictions, mainly male, increased by 1.5%, showing a certain continuity in prosecution.

While we are repeatedly confronted with such incidents in our region, the clearance rate of recorded crimes remains at a relatively stable 58%. This shows that the police are continuing to keep a close eye on what is happening and are calling on citizens to report any suspicious observations.
