New Biohotel in Oberhof: Ulbricht Gästehaus becomes the ecological holiday destination

Oberhof, Deutschland - In Oberhof something is happening! Macht GmbH has big plans for the former guest house of the former GDR official Walter Ulbricht, which has been exposed to decay since the turn. According to Inüdthüringen the company plans the construction of a modern biohotel on the site, which should cost a proud 60 million euros.

The old guest house, better known as "Waltershausen", was built about 60 years ago and has seen several changes of ownership since then. Mayor Thomas Schulz emphasizes that despite intensive discussions with various investors, little has so far been preceded. Now this should change with Machts GmbH, which the 10 hectare area took over in spring and whose ambitious plans have been presented in the city council since 2021. For many who previously only knew the ruin as a grave for decaying architecture, this is a good news.

environmentally friendly concept and innovative construction

The new hotel will include a total of 60 rooms, four apartments and 14 holiday homes. A timber building with underground car park and a restaurant is planned. These measures are not only characterized by modernity, but also take into account the sustainable orientation, which the company places special value on. In addition, greening measures and new plantings are provided after many trees had to be felled by bark beetle damage, reports Image .

With a visionary approach, Ostara GmbH from Jena, the investor behind the renovation, would like to revitalize the hospitable charm of Oberhof and plans to lead the hotel under the name "Vacation at Ulbricht". After clarification of the building law hurdles, the construction work should begin in 2023 and use a construction period of about a year and a half. So the biohotel could possibly receive 2024 guests.

The long way to the new building

Despite the positive approaches, the previous progress has been closely observed. As the mayor explains, it remains to be seen whether and when the first excavators actually roll. The old building gradually continues to serve and the skepticism of some citizens is understandable after many investment promises have remained unfulfilled in the past. According to the reports, the renovation planning is not only a question of money, but also of the timing and the commitment of everyone involved.

How the situation will develop is uncertain. But both the city administration and the public look forward to what becomes the new biohotel and whether a piece of history in Oberhof can be converted into a future worth living. The inn could not only offer a new face for the popular Thuringian holiday destination, but also contribute to the attractiveness of the entire German hotel market in the coming years, as we can learn from further developments in the hotel industry, for example in Hotelier.de .
