Oberhof's suspension bridge: million-dollar investment for tourism!
Oberhof is buzzing with excitement: a new pedestrian suspension bridge called “Skywalk” is in the starting blocks and could soon spice up tourism in the region. But while the plans are already in the pipeline, the decision on the preliminary building application has been lying dormant in the district office for months. Loud South Thuringia However, a decision from the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district is expected at the end of the month. The anticipation for the Skywalk is increasing!
A huge project: The planned bridge is to be built between the Wadeberg in Oberhof and the adjacent sports facilities on the other side of the valley. With a length of 500 meters and a height of 60 meters, it is a real magnet not only for locals but also for tourists. Estimated costs of around five million euros are on the calculation list. Managing director Arndt Brüne from Skywalk Willingen GmbH is optimistic and reports positive signals from the responsible authorities. “There is no evidence of concerns about our project,” he says.
A show garden for sports enthusiasts
Similar to the skywalk construction in Willingen, which served as a model and has already been successful there, the bridge is also intended to function as a seasonal attraction in Oberhof. It is estimated that around 100,000 visitors are expected annually. You can imagine how happy the local restaurants and businesses are about the increase in guests! The overall environment of sports-loving towns and the attractive location in the low mountain range do the rest to keep Oberhof high in the tourism competition.
The investors consciously relied on Oberhof when planning, which was not least due to an idea that one of the managing directors had while on vacation. The city administration is behind the project and emphasizes that open questions about parking spaces and sanitary facilities must be clarified together with the investors. Gastro entrepreneurs from the region were consistently positive about the plans and supported the initiative.
Visitor-friendly pricing policy
In order to offer visitors a tasty offer, the entry prices for the Skywalk should be similar to those in Willingen. Adults can look forward to a cost of 11 euros and children 8 euros. The bridge should be open all year round and therefore be a destination for excursions not only in summer but also during the winter months. This shift could be the key to year-round business for the region.
Now all we have to do is wait and see whether the district office issues the final building permit. But one thing is certain: Oberhof is showing that it has something up its sleeve to give new impetus to tourism in the town. A major project that could shape the region and offer visitors an unforgettable experience!
