Vintage car splendor in Suhl: 30 years of the vehicle museum celebrated!

On August 24, 2025, the Suhl Vehicle Museum celebrated a remarkable 30th anniversary with an anniversary event that attracted many classic car enthusiasts in droves. An impressive vintage car parade took place on the German Unity Square, where historic racing cars, automobiles and motorcycles from East and West could be admired. How insuedthueringen.de reports, visitors were able to marvel at vehicles belonging to vintage car enthusiasts from Meiningen, Zella-Mehlis and the entire region. A highlight was the Simson-Supra Type S racing car and two examples of the Simson-Supra Type RI. The presentation of one of the Simson Supra Type RI, which was demonstrated by Uwe Thorwald after a successful restoration, was particularly impressive. This 98-year-old classic car, built in 1927, was purchased in 1969 and saved from scrapping. It had an eventful history: the vehicle was hidden from the SED and has been lovingly restored in the Suhl neighborhood since 2018. It was the first time that the Supra rolled on the streets of Suhl again.

The day before, the restored Supra was on display at the classic car meeting in Wernshausen. Enthusiasm for vintage vehicles is strong in the region and these events not only bring enthusiasts together, but also provide a unique opportunity to celebrate the passion for historic technology.

Next events planned

The next event is already scheduled for fans of historical motorcycles: the 17th Suhl vintage car ride on September 6, 2025. As mentioned on the official website of the Suhl Vehicle Museum, this one-day event will take place in a region that is known for its traditional motorcycles of the 1920s, including the famous models of the S50/S51 series as well as the AWO and the Vogel series. Motorsport drivers like the Simson factory teams have also celebrated great successes here.

Registration for the event is possible until August 10, 2025. Due to registration problems last year, early registration is recommended. Here, vintage car enthusiasts not only see historic motorcycles in action, but can also experience the technical development and history of these fascinating vehicles.
