Precision work from southern Thuringia: Two neighbors united in success!

Something is happening in the southern Thuringian economy - and not just in secret. The cooperation between the SZM clamping tools from Zella-Mehlis and Feinmess Suhl shows how mutual support and local networking can contribute to success. This collaboration in the area of high-precision special solutions began at the first networking evening of the Municipal Working Group (KAG) in November 2024. Despite the geographical proximity, the two companies have not had any business contacts to date.

In spring 2025, the potential for synergies was discovered at the next meeting, when Feinmess Suhl needed special collets, which SZM was able to deliver promptly and in the usual quality. Managing director Nils Blondin from Feinmess Suhl praises the neighbor's quick and solution-oriented reaction, which not only strengthens business relationships but also serves as a showcase for the KAG's advantages.

Networking and collaboration

The importance of such collaborations is also illustrated by another KAG format: a speed dating meeting at which around 25 representatives from the areas of precision and glass technology met. Here Not only common challenges were discussed, but concrete cooperation opportunities were also explored. Mayor Alexander Brodführer pointed out important topics such as demographic change, shortage of skilled workers and competition on the economic market.

Also on the agenda were recruiting young talent, infrastructural needs and digitalization - all aspects that are crucial for sustainable economic development. In addition, company visits by the Business Development Working Group are intended to help identify individual company needs and develop solutions. As part of this, digital networking on platforms such as LinkedIn is also being considered in order to present the region as an attractive business location.

Regional strengthening through innovative strength

The KAG is not only a network, but also a motor for economic development in the region. The comprehensive support in economic matters and access to funding help to strengthen companies in southern Thuringia. As part of the “Active Regional Development” funding initiative Support of 700,000 euros will be provided until April 2024, and a further 500,000 euros will flow into the initiative to strengthen the uptake of funding in structurally weak areas by autumn 2026.

The Thuringia South brand, with its new logo and brand style, presents itself as a customizable center of life and calls for active participation. In the Integrated regional economic development concept The aim is to meet the challenges of the region by combining forces in the areas of recruiting skilled workers and location marketing. All participating districts are called upon to work together on this brand in order to promote and present the region as a place worth living in.

Companies in southern Thuringia are invited to take an active part, be it in the company run or the city biathlon on September 27th. These events not only offer an opportunity for team building, but also strengthen the cohesion and visibility of regional companies. You could say that the signs point to cooperation – and that’s a good thing!
