Shooting sports have a long tradition in Thuringia, and in Suhl in particular, the ambitious efforts to host the 2030 Shooting World Championships are worth a look. Thuringia's Sports Minister Stefan Gruhner has clearly spoken out in favor of the application. This reports in southern Thuringia, where the first steps for this ambitious project are also discussed. But the project has not yet developed the necessary momentum. According to Gruhner, a central stumbling block is the unclear sponsorship of the SSZ, which is significantly slowing down progress.
The Suhl shooting sports center
The shooting sports center, which is located on the outskirts of the weapons town of Suhl, is a true gem of Thuringian shooting sports. Covering an area of 27 hectares, the facility houses numerous training ranges for both Olympic and non-Olympic shooting disciplines. Participation in national and international events

A comprehensive list of exhibitors, such as the ahg-Anschütz Handels GmbH or the Feinwerkbau GmbH, shows the high quality and the great interest shown in shooting sports in Germany.
With this strong base and the support of the state government, Suhl could soon shine on the international stage of shooting sports. The challenge now is to clarify the open questions regarding the sponsorship of the SSZ and to create the necessary dynamic in the application for the World Cup.
