Thuringian sports shooters ready for the German Championships in Munich!
When summer finally arrives, there is a sporting spectacle in Munich that the shooting community should not miss. The German Shooting Championships are on the program from August 21st to 31st, 2025, and the Olympic shooting range in Garching-Hochbrück will be a mecca for over 6,000 athletes. These come together over 11 days of competition to experience a total of 9,599 starts. And the best thing: Thuringia is also sending its best shooters into the race, with more than 100 participants from 28 clubs [insuedthueringen.de].
The number of athletes is impressive: in the air rifle student class alone there are an impressive 131 starters. A total of 200 individual titles will be awarded in various disciplines, including rifle, shotgun, handgun and crossbow, which will be played in both team and mixed competitions. The Thuringian Shooting Association (TSB) registered 106 shooters, including medalists from the European Championships such as Valentina Umhöfer and Magnus Erdmann.
An exciting weekend
The “Olympic weekend” from August 22nd to 24th will be particularly attention-grabbing, when the finals will be broadcast live via [Sportdeutschland.TV]. Spectators can also look forward to the individual finals in the trap competition on August 29th. The exact times of the events will be announced once the detailed schedule has been finalized.
Participation in such outstanding sporting events is not only important for the athletes themselves, but also for the entire shooting community. They show that sport shooting appeals to a wide audience and promotes numerous talents. This is also clear from the high number of participants in these championships, which cover different age groups and therefore represent the entire range of the sport. While 8,500 athletes took part in the World University Games in North Rhine-Westphalia and 3,500 athletes in the finals in Dresden, the championship in Munich is a very special highlight in the sports calendar.
A look back at a sport with tradition
It cannot be overlooked that the German championship feeling is also deeply rooted in history. The term “German” has taken on many facets over the centuries. Originally traced back to the Germanic dialects of the early Middle Ages, the German language, particularly High German, has developed into the central characteristic of the people, as Wikipedia explains. The connection to the language and culture is also noticeable in sport shooting, where tradition and competitive spirit go hand in hand.
With such a high number of participants and an exciting supporting program, the German Shooting Championships in Munich will be an unforgettable event. We have to keep our fingers crossed for the athletes of the Thuringian Shooting Association and all other clubs who are preparing for the competitions in the next few weeks!
