Rennsteig Tunnel will be closed overnight from today until July 2nd – plan a diversion!
There is important information for all drivers who will be on the road in the coming days. From today, June 30, 2025, Autobahn 71 in the Rennsteig Tunnel area in the direction of Sangerhausen will be closed overnight in order to carry out urgently necessary maintenance work. This measure extends until July 2, 2025 and affects the nightly hours from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., as in southern Thuringia reported.
The closure includes both the Rennsteig tunnel and the Alte Burg in both directions. All those traveling from the Oberhof junction towards Sangerhausen will be directed to the Gräfenroda junction via the U11 on-demand diversion. It is recommended to use the diversions in good time to avoid delays.
Current construction phases on the A71
In addition to the maintenance work, there are several construction phases on Highway 71 that will last until July 21, 2025. These not only affect the connection between Sangerhausen and Erfurt, but also other sections, which as part of these large-scale measures have so far stretched over a total length of 4.87 km.
