The forest pool is idyllically located on the outskirts of Suhl-Heidersbach at around 630 meters above sea level. In this wonderful, hillside location, visitors enjoy sunshine almost all day long. The young Kunze family in particular, consisting of Franz, Lina and their father Marco, are eager to help with the work in the bathroom. Their efforts are an excellent example of local community commitment.

In the summer months, however, the health aspect should not be ignored. The risk of bathing dermatitis caused by so-called cercariae increases in natural waters. These small larvae can attach themselves to the skin of bathers, which can lead to unpleasant skin reactions. This is particularly relevant during hot periods when the small “fork-tailed cercariae” from the aquatic animal cycle accumulate in surface waters.

Health warnings for bathers

In addition to the refreshing opportunities that forest bathing offers, visitors should be careful to know the symptoms of cercarial dermatitis. After about 10-25 hours, signs such as itching and inflamed wheals may appear, but these usually heal without any lasting consequences. To protect yourself from these annoying skin reactions, the advice is to avoid shallow, muddy shore areas and quickly move to deeper waters. If you change your wet swimwear quickly after swimming and dry yourself thoroughly, you can further minimize the risk.
