Thuringian delegation in Israel: Hope for civil protection and the economy!

An important visit is imminent: Interior Minister Georg Maier will be heading to Israel as part of a delegation trip. The aim of this trip is to explore the country's military developments for civilian purposes - a concept known in the professional world as “dual use”. The focus is particularly on the topics of civil protection and social resilience, which have become more explosive since the Corona crisis and the Ukraine war. Thuringia is showing great interest in learning from Israel's experiences about how to adapt in times of crisis. MDR reports that Israel is a particularly relevant example in this regard, as the country has been living with conflict and social unrest for decades.

Israeli society and the economy have learned to constantly adapt under these challenges. Before the Gaza war broke out, tens of thousands of Israelis demonstrated against the restructuring of the justice system by Benjamin Netanyahu's government, which also significantly affected the high-tech industry. This important sector of the economy has suffered recently: for the first time, the industry is contracting and unemployment is reaching above-average levels. International criticism of the Netanyahu government has also left its mark on the economy.

Hope for the Israeli economy

In the midst of this difficult situation, the visit of the Thuringian delegation is seen as a ray of hope for the Israeli economy. Prime Minister Voigt will emphasize the importance of innovation, courage and solidarity as he holds political talks in the Knesset and with government representatives in Jerusalem. Together with Interior Minister Maier, the goal is to expand existing partnerships between Thuringian companies and Israeli start-ups and to consolidate cooperation in the areas of science, politics and society. A Thuringian entrepreneur will also sign a new contract with his partner company during his stay, which could further strengthen the cooperation.

The delegation will stay in Israel until Thursday, giving the Thuringian representatives the opportunity to get an idea of the conditions on site and exchange valuable experiences. The focus here is on creating resilient structures and exchanging best practices in order to jointly address the challenges arising from global crises.

Thuringia is thus showing a good knack for dealing with international relations and wants to learn from Israel's strength how to assert itself in difficult times. Given the high level of participation of the high-tech industry in social movements in Israel, it is also important for Thuringian entrepreneurs to understand the legal security and conditions for investments in the region.
