In front of the Martin Luther daycare center, where the event began, the forecourt was filled 30 minutes before the big event with a colorful group of children, parents and grandparents who were full of anticipation for the parade. Pastor Martin Weber gave a warm welcome before Saint Martin led the procession on horseback. In contrast to last year, when the rain dampened the celebrations, this time the atmosphere was undimmed - an all-round successful evening for the young and old participants.

Why do we actually celebrate St. Martin’s Day? This important day, celebrated on November 11th, is closely linked to various customs such as lantern parades and the consumption of roast goose. Saint Martin himself was a Roman soldier born around 316 AD. One of the most famous legends tells that Martin shared his coat with a cold beggar, who later revealed himself to him in a dream as Jesus Christ. Martin is also revered as the patron saint of many people, including winemakers and beggars. To celebrate St. Martin's Day, children traditionally made torches and lanterns to parade through the streets, which beautifully underlines the spirit of these celebrations.
