Eisenach loses social department store: Where is the help now?
There are currently lasting changes in the social support of citizens in Eisenach. The MHM social department store will be closed, and the city administration, led by economic developer Michael Frisch, is actively looking for alternative locations or potential successors. Currently the current location is not a city property and will no longer be available in a few weeks. This has affected many inner-city residents and those who rely on cheap goods.
A social shopping playground for the needy, the MHM social department store usually offers cheap goods. Here people who are in financial difficulties can find used furniture, household goods, toys and more at low prices - often even for free. These businesses are usually run by charities and local social welfare organizations and offer an important point of contact for those who need support. The goods often come from household clearances and clearances, and the staff often consists of long-term unemployed people who are looking to get back into working life. Volunteers also contribute to the operation, which strengthens solidarity in the community.
A new beginning for social services
The closure of the social department store also calls other institutions onto the scene. The Sozialedienstegesellschaft Wartburgkreis mbH (SDW) at Gaswerkstrasse 9 is an additional contact point in Eisenach. There, needy citizens can purchase furniture, household goods and toys at affordable prices. However, in order to receive support in the SDW, proof of need is required.
The SDW is open five days a week and invites people to donate items that are in good condition to the “Social Marketplace”. The SDW offers valuable support, especially in times when many people rely on a good hand in managing their finances.
Contact and support
Anyone interested in considering a new location for the social department store or who would like to become an operator themselves can contact Michael Frisch directly. He is available during his consultation hours every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the “Mittendrin” office, Markt 23. For short-term concerns, you can also reach him by email at michael.frisch@eisenach.de or by phone at 03691 670-145.
You can also reach the SDW on the telephone number 036921 339-014 or 017615573917. The SDW offers, among others, the following opening times: Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as by prior arrangement. It remains exciting to see how the situation surrounding the social department store will develop further. Another call for the community to stand together and support each other becomes increasingly important in these times.
